Key products your skin will love this season

These past few years I've been a huge advocate for letting my natural skin show through! Working as a makeup artist on the side for brides has totally killed any motivation to apply makeup on my own skin. Instead, I've retreated to keeping my natural complexion glowing and clear of blemishes. I've been pretty lucky throughout my adolescence; I never went through the teenage acne phase (god bless), but I'm crossing my fingers it doesn't show up in my adult years! I know it takes courage to walk out the house with out a full face of makeup, and it took me awhile before I actually loved looking in the mirror with a bare face. So take baby steps, I usually have a bit of mascara on my lashes anyways! (their so blonde in comparison to my natural hair color which is very dark!)

Emulsifier, Cleanser and Exfoliant:

The past year or so, I've dedicated myself to sticking to a daily beauty routine. Wake up, Wash the face, Apply a face oil, Moisturize, Mascara and out the door! (oral health is important too! Skipping for the sake of common sense I hope?) It's a little more detailed when I'm getting ready to end my night though: step by step below.

  1. Dermalogica Precleanse*: An oil busting emulsifier; this product melts and breaks down any oil or makeup on the skin. Perfect for when you have a full face or just the daily struggles of every day environmental pollutants. Start off by applying a small pump to a dry face, this will help dissolve surface oils and dirts, add water and continue massaging to create a milky emulsion. Rinse!

  2. Kate Somerville: ExfoliKate Cleanser: A daily Gentle cleanser, I like using this alone with out the precleanse when I want to shorten my routine. This is a conditioning cleanser and does not dry out the epidermis like most cleansers that strip the skin! Another plus is it smells like fruit loops! (nummy)

  3. Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant*: Probably my favorite part in my beauty routine, this leaves your skin glowing and sooo smooth! Gentle enough for every day, and for all skin conditions. Packed with Rice enzymes that exfoliate dead skin cells and help uneven skin pigmentations this is a great product for everyone. Apply a nickel sized amount to palm and add a few drops of water, start gently massaging on the face ( I love using this product in the shower, I extend the exfoliant to my chest and neck!) and then just rinse!

Toners & Facial Sprays:

Im a firm believer of toners and facial sprays for hydration, I love using them alone or combined with my favorite products and always switching it up with different brands. Two of my favorites listed below:

  1. Dermalogica Multi-Active Toner*: A few Sprays all over the face and you're golden. Great for balancing the PH levels in your skin, this prepares it for proper moisture absorption. Packed with soothing Lavender, balm mint and arnica!

  2. Mario Badescu Facial Spray: Used after my moisturizer this bad boy is refreshing and invigorating to say the least. Infused with cucumber, green tea and peppermint, a great antioxidant protectant and a added radiance to finish off your beauty routine.

facial oil & moisturizer:

My key products for moisture and glow!

  1. Julep Reparative Rosehip Seed Facial Oil: Not only does this smell like heaven but it feels like it it on the skin too. Don't be scared of incorporating oils in your beauty routine, this actually regulates oil production in the skin, so to all my girls who stay far far away from adding more; DON'T! Excess oil production can be caused from your skin trying to balance from dryness and other factors. You can have oily skin and also be dry at the same time! Absorbs beautifully in the skin, leaving it soft and subtle ready for moisturizer! (Rosehip oil has amazing benefits!)

  2. Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Balance*: A super intense moisture that's perfect for that last moisture kick! Perfect for what the Michigan climate does to my skin, I apply a dime to quarter size amount and massage it over the face in upward movements.

Lip balms made for the goddess venus herself:

I've had chronic dehydrated lips since before I can even remember, during the winter months are the worst! I drink 6+ bottles of water a day, exfoliate them and god knows what else. I just always need to have lip balm on, which honestly I'm ok with. They're never chapped because of my two favorite products:

  1. Tatcha Camellia Gold Spun Lip balm: I've been hooked on this product since its been released, intensely hydrating, rich in camellia oil (which has some great Geisha and Japanese beauty history behind it) and 23-Karat golden shimmer! Who could say no? A little pricy but this lasts me over 4 months, and I'm an avid applier.

  2. Aquaphor Healing Ointment: Holy grail item for everyone, super cheap and amazing. Tattoo artist recommend this for the healing process of their clients. Formulated with 41% Petrolatum which allows oxygen to flow and help heal skin. Easy tube application is mess free- which is alway's a plus.

While these products work for me they may not for you!

I'm a licensed esthetician and have been educated and worked with the Dermalogica* line so I've come to love each product listed because of how it reacts with my skin type and condition. Trial and error is always a good road to go down when looking for skin products; Ask around, read a blog post and don't be afraid to ask questions at the beauty bar! Worst case scenario they won't be informed and you'll just have to do your own research!

Best, V

Side note about Dermalogica*

Dermalogica is Vegan, Gluten Free, Paraben-free, Cruelty-free and they neglect adding in artificial fragrances and colors to their products; more reasons on why I love their skin line!
